One Night Only (terrible name for a band if you think of the posters) take their second album on tour stopping off, visiting the Academy 2 in Dublin on Wednesday 20th October. The first single from this album “Say You Don’t Want It” (embedded below) features an actress called “Emma Watson” that you might know from a few movies.
By the way, is it just me or does the lead singer look like he’s channelling the Child Catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang?
No Age perform live at Whelan’s, Dublin on Sunday 10 October with Male Bonding, Silje Nes and Mice Parade. No Age’s album “Everything in Between”, release date Friday 24 September was recorded in Los Angeles from the end of 2009 and into 2010 by the duo of Dean Spunt and Randy Randall. They emerged from former band Wives in 2005, to become No Age, part of the DIY art-punk scene in LA. No Age have risen from sweaty basement shows and art galleries to having their songs blast off the walls of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), to performing at unconventional spaces both close to home and abroad.
The soul-folk-glam ensemble from New York The Duke & The King play The Academy 2, Dublin on Tuesday 19 October, on Thursday 21 October in The Set Theatre, Kilkenny and on Friday 22 October in The Sligo Live Festival, Sligo. The group founded, produced, and created by Simone Felice and Robert Bird Burke, featuring the Simi Stone and Reverend Loveday, and like any travelling theatre troupe there’s bound to be a growing cast of bewitching characters on the night.
LadyDoll are an alternative rock band, who are going from county to county spporting their third single “Punchbag” and their debut album, ‘The Knife Thrower and His Wife’. Along the way they’ve gotten national radio coverage, and a live TV performance on RTE2’s The Café, Recently LadyDoll won the much sought after Jack Daniels JD Set, beating off stiff competition from some of Ireland’s best up and coming bands, as well as impressing the panel of judges, including Tim Burgess of The Charlatans. LadyDoll’s music would be most suitably classified under the genre of ‘Dark Rock’ infused with pop undertones. They play Friday 22 October in The Quad, Cork, Tuesday October 26 in Roisin Dubh, Galway, Thursday 28 October in the Odessa Club, Dublin, Friday 29 October in Harrisson, Dundalk, Thursday 4 November in Auntie Annies, Belfast and Friday 5 November in The Weavers, Drogheda.
Los Angeles all-girl four-piece Warpaint are set to release their début album The Fool on 22 October 2010 through Rough Trade. They play Crawdaddy, Dublin on Thursday 21 October. Recorded in a gym in LA, The Fool was produced and mixed by Tom Biller (Karen O – ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ and ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ soundtracks), with further mixes from Andrew Weatherall (New Order, Primal Scream, Bjork) and Adam Samuels (Pearl Jam, Willie Nelson). The album follows their Exquisite Corpse EP, released in 2009. In addition, The xx have hand-picked Warpaint to support them on their September/October tour of the US. Over the last twelve months the band have also toured with Yeasayer, Band of Horses and The Walkmen

Ocean Colour Scene play the Olympia Theatre date on Sunday 13 February as part of their Moseley Shoals Tour. OCS, who will be celebrating their 21st anniversary next year, have clocked up an impressive eleven Top 20 singles and five Top 10 albums during their illustrious career. Saturday, their ninth studio album, was recorded over six weeks last summer at the iconic Rockfield studios in South Wales with producer Gavin Monaghan (Editors/ the Twang), and finds them as vibrantly tuneful as they’ve ever been. OCS are renowned for their live performances, and stole the show at this year’s V, where they were named ‘Band Of The Festival’ by BBC Radio 2 and Absolute Radio.
Tom Baxter returns to Ireland this November for a very special intimate date at Whelan’s on Wednesday 24 November. After years of writing, performing, promoting, touring and not to mention producing a book & 10 original pieces of art for his last album ‘Skybound’, Tom Baxter was ready for some time out. “It was a great and exciting time, but by the end of it all, I felt I needed a break from music, London and my career”. So off he went to India for the best part of a year. On return Tom made his way down to the South of Spain for a few months to follow up his yen to study flamenco guitar and later wound up in Paris busking on the streets. On arriving back in the UK, he moved all his belongings to the south Devonshire coast where he now lives and is working on his 3rd album -‘Golden’. Tom is on track to release an EP later on in the year, with an album to follow in 2011.
Republic of Loose have just signed an international distribution deal with ADA Global. The band’s new album ‘Bounce At The Devil’ will be released internationally in 2011 with the back catalogue to follow in all territories. “The Loose” will be supporting the release with several dates and festival appearances around Europe and North America in 2011. Best known for his work on The Late Late Show, world-class pianist and proud father Frank McNamara will perform with his four talented children, ranging from age 9 to 14, in two hours of music, song and fun incorporating light classical, Irish, West End tunes and pop in Cork Opera House on Tuesday 26 October.
Sean Costello will perform as Mario Lanza in Cork Opera House on Sunday 31 October. Mario Lanza, the Italian American tenor and Hollywood star was only 38, and at the height of his career when he died suddenly on 7 October 1959. In a short career spanning only 10 years, Mario Lanza became the biggest star of his generation. At the height of his career he even out-sold Elvis Presley. Sean Costello, tenor, will be the main singer in the show. Special guests are Niall Morris (formerly of The Celtic Tenors) and soprano, Sandra Oman. Vladimir Jablokov will lead the musicians from The Slovak Festival Orchestra.
Ray Lamontagne & The Pariah Dogs play a fully seated show at Dublin’s Olympia Theatre on Friday 4 March. The billing on LaMontagne’s fourth album, God Willin’ & the Creek Don’t Rise, reveals instantly that something new is happening with this project. The record is credited to “Ray LaMontagne and the Pariah Dogs”—the first time that the singer/songwriter has defined himself within a band setting, rather than as a solo artist. In addition, it marks the first time that LaMontagne has taken on the role of producer. And as soon as the music starts, with the Joe Cocker-style soul power of the opening “Repo Man,” it’s apparent that one of the world’s most acclaimed artists has moved into some fresh territory.

Los Angeles band Lifehouse have confirmed a Dublin headline date at The Academy on Sunday 20 February. For the duration of Los Angeles-based Lifehouse’s ten-year career they’ve been delicately balancing two identities: radio-ready song craftsmen and raucous live rock and roll band. On their forthcoming fifth studio album, Smoke & Mirrors, the band finally unites these two personalities.
Over two fine albums and accompanying incendiary live shows across Europe, Delorentos have proven themselves to be one of Ireland’s most exciting contemporary bands.
